Our Director, Eric Bach, was raised locally and returned to the area after studying architecture and its role in the aging in place process. Having been an Emergency Medical Technician for 20 years and working in state government for 10 years, he made the decision to purchase the Canterbury Inn. Eric, and his dog Danni, are seen around the building talking with residents, playing games and working shifts with staff to provide services to the residents at Canterbury Inn.
Fun Fact: His co-owner is his mom, Debbie Bach!

Debbie grew up locally and has lived in the area for many years. Raising her two children and being an active part of her community took most of her time before she began her career as a nurse. Debbie has many years of experience as a nurse. Primarily working in emergency medicine, she spent many years working in ER's before she began managing them. Her time as an administrator in both local hospitals and as a director for public health for the State of Vermont, has been instrumental in her transition back to elder care right where she started her nursing career - here at the Canterbury Inn!

Resident Life
Our Care Team is dedicated to the ongoing support of our resident’s health. Overseen by our Director of Nursing, we staff with a variety of caregivers awake and on site 24-hours a day. Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Licensed Nursing Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants and Patient Care Attendants are all trained for our specific facility and resident needs when they begin at Canterbury Inn. We work closely with local primary care providers to monitor the routine and urgent health care needs of our residents. To ensure the best continuity of care, we also work specifically with a locally based facility provider who works with us to provide on-site medical visits.
The Care Team is very active in the daily functions of our resident’s and are highly incorporated into the daily functions of our facility. Showers, dressing, toileting and general hygiene are important parts of our care team’s role in our residents’ lives. Our goal is to help residents remain as independent as possible by supporting them in daily functions and allowing them to do as much as they are able to do on their own. We understand each individual is at a different point in the aging process and strive to ensure we are creating personalized care plans to support each resident in the most meaningful way possible. Our staff take great pride in the care they provide and the services they can offer both our residents and our resident’s families.
Our Care Team is responsible for oversight and administration of resident medications, medical care, medical treatments and providing the communications needed to keep family and other providers apprised of any changes.
The Dietary Team at Canterbury Inn works with our residents and staff to ensure the nutritional needs of all our residents are being met. Our team speaks with each resident individually when they arrive to find out what they each like, dislike and how they prefer their food to be served. Our dietary team assists in monitoring and supporting the diet plans of our diabetic residents which includes helping them actively participate in the meal options available to them, or any other group with a restricted diet.
Our kitchen is fully staffed from 6:00am to 6:00pm with after-hours support from other Canterbury team members allowing access to dietary services 24-hours a day. The Dietary prepares three full meals each day. Menus are made in advance and posted for residents to review. If a resident does not like a menu option, they have the option to request an alternate meal. All residents are encouraged to join us in the dining room for meals where they can socialize and have eating habits monitored for health and safety.
The Facilities Team at Canterbury Inn has the diversified task of keeping the building clean, orderly and in good working order. Our facility is comprised of two connected buildings, one built originally in 1849 and the other constructed in 1984. Knowledge of our diverse systems and an understanding of the general use and wear of the building support our Facilities Team in proactively maintaining our building and providing a clean, comfortable home for our residents as well as a good work environment for our staff. Our Facilities Team is regularly scheduled between the hours of 7:00am and 4:30pm to ensure we can work around our resident’s schedules with the lowest impact on their daily activities.
Our Housekeeping Team has the role of maintaining the facility’s overall appearance. Trash removal, making beds, vacuuming, and mopping are all tasks that keep this team busy. Our goal is to work with each resident to ensure their room is cleaned once a week. We do deeper cleanings yearly which require us to remove all items from each resident’s room.
Laundry is done daily. We collect laundry, treat, wash, dry, hang and deliver clothes to each resident each day. Linens are washed and changed regularly, and more often as needed in each room. We provide linens for each resident unless they choose to bring their own.
It is our belief that remaining active and engaged is best practice for good physical and mental health. We provide daily activities for our residents to help support that goal. Morning exercises, table games, lawn/floor games, rides, social events, movies and walks around town are just a few of the regular options at Canterbury Inn. Our Resident Life Coordinator takes time to regularly meet with our residents to discuss how they are doing, address concerns and take suggestions for upcoming scheduled events. Although a majority of our activities are organized and overseen by staff, we do support resident lead activities, musicians, volunteers as well as professionals from our communities and families. Our Resident Coordinator is always happy to hear from our friends and family about new and exciting activity opportunities!
